In a tragic turn of events, Nick Imudia, the former Chief Executive Officer of Konga, one of Nigeria’s leading e-commerce companies, has died by suicide. Imudia, who was serving as the CEO of D.light, a pioneering company in residential solar energy solutions and household products, took his own life on the night of Tuesday, June 25, by jumping from the balcony of his Lekki, Lagos apartment.
Prior to his fatal act, Imudia made a series of distressing phone calls. He contacted his brother in the United States, providing instructions on how to distribute his wealth in the event of his death. He also reached out to his young daughter from a previous relationship, assuring her that he would always be with her in spirit, urging her to look to the sky to feel his presence.
The news has left his friends, family, and associates in a state of shock and confusion, as there were no clear indications of why Imudia would take such a drastic step. Originally from the Ika South local government area of Delta State, Imudia had a turbulent personal life. He was previously married to the mother of his young daughter, but the marriage ended due to irreconcilable differences.
Imudia later found love again and married a Caucasian woman, leading many to believe that he had found personal happiness. His sudden death, therefore, has been particularly bewildering to those who knew him.
Imudia had a distinguished career in the tech and business sectors. Before his tenure at Konga, he held significant positions, including Regional Director at TCL/Alcatel and General Manager/Managing Director for West and Central Africa at Microsoft Device and Services.
The e-commerce and tech communities in Nigeria have expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of a visionary leader. Imudia was known for his contributions to the growth of e-commerce in Nigeria and his innovative approach in the energy sector with D.light.
